Positive news is expected on a new Local Link bus service from Ballyjamesduff to Cavan Town shortly.
A petition with the names of 1400 people who wanted the service was drawn up by a campaign group in 2019. Now, the National Transport Authority have indicated a bus route from Ballyjamesduff to Cavan Town taking in Kells and Virginia will be operating soon.
The group who organised the petition brought it to Cavan-Monaghan TD, Niamh Smyth, over five years ago. They lobbied the TD for the service citing Ballyjamesduff's rural location in the middle of Cavan and the need for local people to have transport to the county town for everything from doctor appointments and shopping to getting access to their local council offices. Deputy Smyth told Northern Sound she has just received "a very positive response" from the NTA:
