A local councillor has described the new changes that is being to planning applications as a game changer.
Cllr Aine Smith said the biggest overhaul of rural housing policy in more than 20 years will make the planning process easier to navigate for so many.
She says in areas like West Cavan, the changes will be make a huge difference to people looking for their forever home.
The Draft National Planning Statement on Rural and Gaeltacht Housing was agreed by the Government last week.
The Fianna Fail councillor says if we want to keep rural Ireland strong, we need to make sure more people can make it their home.
The West Cavan woman said these changes now see a major focus on homes in rural counties like Cavan.
Cllr Smith says rural Ireland needed these new guidelines.
