The Department reported just over 300 new cases of the virus showing that the pandemic is shrinking by between 2 and 4 per cent each day

The National Public Health Emergency Team says the country is performing better than we could've hoped for in the fight against Covid-19.

The Department of Health reported just over 300 new cases of the virus, and say the pandemic is shrinking by between 2 and 4 per cent per day.

The five-day moving average now stands at 358 - down 12 percent on last week.

Professor Philip Nolan, who chairs NPHET's modelling group, says the reduction has been helped by less people meeting indoors.

Locally, Cavan recorded 5 cases yesterday and now has a rate of 139.2 which is above the national average.

Monaghan had fewer than 5 cases confirmed yesterday and an incidence rate of just over 96.
