Over 3,000 euro raised so far for tourism project in Belturbet

Over 3,000 euro has so far been raised for an ambitious project in Belturbet with hopes trains will run through the town's station again.

The Local Heritage Railway group launched the fundraiser in February, with plans to buy rail track from Bord na Mona.

They then plan to install it at the former train station and run an engine along it.

It's the start of major plans the group has to eventually have over 1.5km of various tracks in the area.

It's hoped the project will bring a boost in tourism numbers in the west Cavan town.
