€415,000 in funding has been approved to complete what is being described as a "game changer" regeneration project in Bailieborough.

In 2021, The Bailieborough Courthouse Economic and Tourism Hub was allocated an investment of over €1.4 million under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has approved the funding which will see the re-development of a derelict building in the town centre as an economic, community and cultural hub that will include a visitor centre, museum and cultural and exhibition spaces.

The local Minister says the first Plantation museum in Ireland will be located in Bailieborough which also will include remote working and youth facilities under the project for the Cavan town.

Speaking to Northern Sound Minister Heather Humphreys says this will deliver so many economic and social benefits for the region.

Making the announcement, Minister Humphreys said: “I believe firmly that the Bailieborough Courthouse Economic and Tourism Hub will be a gamechanger. It will deliver so many economic and social benefits for the region as a whole."

“The hub will provide local employment, boost tourism and enhance the town and hinterland’s heritage and historical offering. It will also see Bailieborough being host to Ireland’s first ever dedicated plantation museum, which is very exciting indeed."
