A local parent of a child with special needs has highlighted how "great" it is to have a special school in Co. Monaghan.
Last month, the Monaghan Community Special School opened for children with complex learning needs in Castleblayney.
There are currently 18 students in the school.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Kathleen Maguire said that the school will lay the foundation for children with complex learning needs, where they can be championed, and accepted.
Ms. Maguire, whose son attends the school, said that the school has worked with families to help children start their education journey.
She explained that he will be in the school until he is 18 years old, which is a huge weight off her shoulders.
Ms. Maguire said: "Monaghan Community Special School are going to work with the families, and they have worked with the families to help our children to start their education.
"A lot of these children have never been in school.
"For [my son], he's in a school that he's going to be in until he's 18, and that is such a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.
"Knowing that he's in a safe spot, he's being championed, he's been accepted for who he is, and his complex learning needs," she added.
