People across the region are being asked to take part in a hedgehog survey.

Elaine O'Riordan from the zoology department at NUI Galway is currently doing research into the numbers and prevalence of hedgehogs across Ireland,
and it will be one of the only PhDs ever done on the animal.

She is asking people to record sightings of the little creatures whether they have one living in their garden or if they see one while on their
travels.

There will be a bigger survey for volunteers who are particularly interested in the summer which will involve setting up hedgehog tunnels and monitoring
them for footprints.
