Already this morning 43 speeding offences were recorded.

On National Slow Down Day people in the region are being reminded that rural roads saw the most fatalities in 2020.

The 24-hour road safety campaign began at 7am and saw more than 37,000 vehicles checked within the first two hours and a total of 43 speeding offences in that time.

Local Sergeant in Monaghan, Niall Leech says that this is part of a weekend long campaign to encourage safer driving practises and people can expect a higher visibility of Gardaí on our local roads in the coming hours and days.
