Plans proposed to charge asylum-seekers with jobs for accommodation

Aontu Leader Peadar Toibin thinks its only right some pay their way.

The Government is considering plans to charge asylum-seekers with jobs, up to €238 a week for accommodation in IPAS centres.

The proposed measure comes as costs for housing international protection applicants rose to over a billion euro last year.

Currently, adults in international protection get a weekly rate of €38 and 80 cent for daily expenses, for those who don't have a job.
