Plans for eight new houses in Virginia have been refused permission over fears of the impact they could have on water quality in Lough Ramor.
An Bord Pleanála overturned the planning permission granted to Mithbro Developments Limited by Cavan County Council for the houses at Yew Park last year.
Inland Fisheries Ireland appealed the case with concerns the Virginia Wastewater Treatment Plant is already over capacity and this could lead to waste being discharged into Lough Ramor.
In issuing its direction the Board said among a number of issues it was refusing permission due to the existing constraints on the plant and the number of previously approved developments locally that are yet to begin construction.
The developer did not respond to the claims from IFI but Cavan County Council it’s Irish Water’s responsibility to advise on capacity at treatment plants and in this case it “clearly stated” there was capacity for this development.
