A local professor says we should spend time with family over New Year but in smaller numbers.

Monaghan infectious diseases expert Sam McConkey says it's important after the last year to share 'laughs and craic' with loved ones however, precautions should still be taken.

As we approach New Year's Eve he recommends keeping gatherings small but with more of them.

Professor McConkey says that where possible have ventilation indoors or choose an outdoor setting when meeting friends and neighbours:
