Minister for housing Darragh O'Brien has approved the redevelopment of two derelict buildings at Old Cross Square in Monaghan Town.

According to Senator Robbie Gallagher, it is hoped that the project will lead to the development of seven new social homes. The homes will be built in Old Cross Square and will involve the demolition
of existing properties. Senator Gallagher says that apart from the benefits of building new homes, the development will remove the eyesore of derelict buildings in the town centre. He added that providing homes in the town centre ensures that the future occupants will be close to all amenities while bringing more residential accommodation to the town centre.
