Outside the country's cities the largest increase was seen in the three Ulster counties.

Rents in Cavan are up by 13 per cent and in Monaghan by 15.6 per cent. The average price paid to rent a house in Monaghan is now €1207 and €1294 in Cavan. That's according to the latest Daft.ie rent report released today.

In Monaghan, market rents were on average 12.6% higher in the final three months of 2023 than a year previously. Outside the country's cities the largest increase was seen in the three Ulster counties. The ongoing double-digit increases reflect very low availability, with only 61 homes available to rent in the three counties on February 1st.

While the figures for the Northern Sound region are all on the increase, Monaghan still remains one of the cheapest countries for rent, and comes ion third place after only leitrim and Donegal.
