Rents jumped by almost 20% locally last year

Rents in the country soared by 13.7 per cent last year, the highest figure since Daft.ie began recording the data.

In Cavan, market rents were on average 19.8% higher in the final three months of 2022 than a year previously. The average listed rent is now €1,119, that's up 137% from its lowest point.

Meanwhile in Monaghan, market rents were on average 15.9% higher in the final three months of 2022 than a year previously. The average listed rent in Monaghan now stands at €1072, up 108% from its lowest point.

The average rent nationwide is at 1,700 euro nationally. There were just over 1,000 homes available to rent nationwide on February 1st, down over 20% on the same date last year. In Monaghan this lunchtime there are only 4 properties to rent on the website Daft.ie, ranging from €650 for a 1 bed apartment to €1800 for a 5 bedroom house. Meanwhile in Cavan there are 16 properties to rent across the county. Rents in the county range from €700 for a 1 bed apartment to €2500 for a 5 bedroom house.
