'Local firms are carrying out all the works'

Monaghan County Council is expected to retrofit 20 more homes than planned this year.

It means the local authorities in Cavan and Monaghan will have made almost 100 homes more energy efficient by the end of 2022.

In 2021, Monaghan County Council retrofitted it's target of 36 homes while coming in €80,000 below the allocated €974,000 budget.

For this year, the Department of Environment approved funding to retrofit 54 properties.

A spokesperson said the local authority is on target to complete 74 properties before the end of 2022, with the extra 20 properties being funded through its own resources or extra allocations coming from underspends in other counties.

Meanwhile in Cavan, the council was given just under €650,000 under the energy retrofit programme.

10 social houses in Cavan town are currently undergoing a deep retrofit, while contracts were recently signed to retrofit a further ten in the town.

Local firms are carrying out all the works.

It's expected that all 20 homes will be completed this year at a cost of €760,000.
