A Monaghan Senator has welcomed the reversal of cuts to HSE reimbursement rates. Cataract patients across the region were in fear after cuts of over 40% to reimbursement rates were announced by the HSE. The move would have seen people seeking cataract surgery in Northern Ireland under the cross border EU directive receive just €863 instead of the original rate of just over €1,900. Due to public outcry over the matter, Senator Gallagher confirmed to Northern Sound that the HSE will be no longer going forward with the cuts. He told Northern Sound that people can now "rest easy" as the reimbursement that has always been there will stay until a new payment structure is announced by the HSE in September.
