The family of Kelly Lynch who was found dead at a canal in Monaghan town have welcomed the completion of a review into the handling of the investigation into her death.
Eighteen months after the Garda peer review into the investigation of Kelly’s death began, the Lynch family were presented with the findings by the Gardaí Peer Review Team.
Kelly’s Mother, Juileanne said online that for over two years her family have lived with questions, concerns and a deep belief that the investigation into Kelly’s death fell short in many respects.
She said they never wanted special treatment but just an honest, independent assessment of what happened.
Julieanne said that is exactly what the Gardaí Peer Review Team have provided.
The body of 23-year-old Kelly Lynch was discovered in the Ulster Canal on March 17th and gardaí later confirmed her death was not being treated as suspicious.
The peer review which was ordered by the Garda Commissioner, has identified more than 20 recommendations in relation to the handling of the case.
