The mast has been erected a mere twelve feet from a child's bedroom.

The community of Scotshouse and surrounding areas have launched an urgent call to action regarding the erection of a mast within the village.

Local residents say while the intentions behind this proposal may be driven by technological advancement, it's crucial to recognise the potential ramifications this could have on the local community.

The mast has been erected a mere twelve feet from a child's bedroom and is also located in close proximity to four preserved buildings, and locals believe this is impacting on the heritage of the village. Locals say their voices matter, and together, they have the power to advocate for the preservation of Scotshouse village for generations to come.

A public meeting was held last Monday to find ways to effectively communicate objections, mobilise support, and explore legal avenues to challenge this proposal. Local resident and local election candidate John Connolly says the community will continue its vigil of the site to ensure no further work is carried out.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued to Northern Sound News this afternoon, Eir say they have temporarily paused the construction of a telecommunications mast in Scotshouse due to local opposition concerning its location.

This infrastructure upgrade, co-located at the local telephone exchange, is classified as exempt under Class 31 of the Planning and Development Regulations and aims to enhance mobile voice and data services, particularly indoor coverage in the area. Eir plans to engage with local representatives to address concerns and explore solutions to proceed with the essential communication enhancements for the area.
