'Significant' number of driving detections made locally

The high-visibility checkpoints are part of An Garda Síochána's Bank Holiday Road Safety Operation.

Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit conducted a high-visibility operation around Cootehill as part of the Bank Holiday Road Safety Operation. According to local Gardaí, a significant number of detections were made.

Three drivers were arrested for drug driving, with five vehicles detained under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act for no insurance and no tax. A number of Fixed Charge Notices were issued also for no tax, NCT and other offences. According to members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit, this operation will continue on the roads of Co Cavan with Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoints and speed checks to help make roads safer and reduce potential fatalities.
