Study finds high increase of over 50's feeling less socially connected due to Covid-19 restrictions

81 per cent of people aged 50 and over, felt less socially connected due to the Covid 19 restrictions.

Alone says the finding in the Healthy Ireland Outcomes Framework report shows the need to tackle loneliness among older people.

On International Day of the Older Person, it says calls on Government to commit 5 million euros in funding towards loneliness weren't answered in the Budget.

ALONE CEO Sean Moynihan says it's important to appreciate how much older people contribute to society:

"We really need to be careful in a lot of cases as sometimes by accident we can all be guilty of being slightly ageist. There are so many older people still contributing to society,  whether working, running businesses, volunteering or minding children. So much of our community and economy is dependent on older people and their contribution."
