Suggestions that local TD Niamh Smyth could be in line to replace Robert Troy as a junior minister have been labelled "all speculation".

The Cavan-Monaghan Deputy is one of the names mentioned as a successor to the Westmeath TD who resigned last night.

However, Northern Sound News understands that the Taoiseach hasn't made any indication yet on who may be promoted, with it being suggested he might "let the dust settle" before making an announcement.
