The official opening of Cavan Autism Education and Training Centre takes place this afternoon.
Proceedings will be officiated by the Tainiste Leo Varadkar.
The centre which was established last year is an autism specific day service targeting school leavers and those from rehabilitative training units.
Helena Tighe Giles is the Centre's manager.
She says that while there has been a huge drive forward with autism specific services, there is still a way to go.
"Like everything else, there has been some great work done and a hell of a lot more to do," she added.
"Traditionally, you would have seen children travelling outside of their community for services or to go to school.
"Unfortunately big wheels move slowly and far too slowly for those of us who have family members that are autistic."
