Taxi numbers in Monaghan and Cavan have fell over the last ten years.

The taxi industry is slowly declining across the Shannonside Northern Sound region. It comes as a recent National Transport Authority report outlines a local 24% decrease of taxis since the last decade.

National Transport Authority data from the end of August shows a significant shortage of taxis across the nation. Westmeath is the county with the highest number of taxis in the region at 243, followed up by Cavan at 108.

Leitrim holds the lowest number of taxis in the country at only 49, a decrease of 39% since 2013's figures. The authority reports 67 taxis in Monaghan, 76 in Longford, and 107 in Roscommon.
