A local TD has called for hotels being used as IPAS centres to be "returned as amenities to local communities."
Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy raised concerns about The M hotel in Magheracloone.
The hotel, formerly known as the 'Oasis', is situated just outside of Carrickmacross.
According to the TD, the hotel was turned into emergency accommodation "overnight" without any consultation with the local community.
He explained that the community was very supportive of the residents of the centre.
However, he said the community was "led to believe" and "informed" that it was a temporary arrangement.
Deputy Carthy told Northern Sound that a "decade" later, the hotel is still being used as IPAS accommodation.
He said that there is a formal contract with the department, the details of which are not known to the local community.
Deputy Carthy said: "The local community are, quite rightly in my view, asking questions as to when this will return to being a commercial hotel.
"Bearing in mind, the parish of Magheracloone is a big parish, that doesn't have any other type of commercial accommodation.
"The wider south Monaghan area has been devoid of the type of accommodation facilities that would be required if we were to try and if we were to try and attract the tourism that we would want to to the community.
"I have been engaging with the Minister [for Justice, Jim O'Callaghan] on this privately for some time. Last week I had an opportunity at the justice committee, to try and get some information as to when the local community might expect this building to return to being a commercial hotel. Unfortunately, the type of answers that we would want, weren't forthcoming," he added.
