Three-day event to mark GFA begins today

A three day event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement begins today in Queens University, Belfast.

Some of the biggest names in negotiating peace in the North will attend a conference in Belfast this week. Former US Preisdent Bill Clinton and former Taoiseach Bertie Ahearn are among the speakers at a special conference to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

A three day event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement begins today in Queens University, Belfast. Former US Preisdent Bill Clinton, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahearn and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be attendance this afternoon.

Former US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland Senator George Mitchell will also be in attendance. Hillary Clinton will be awarding Posthumous awards to women who contributed to peace in the north.

Among those being honoured is Mo Mowlam, a British cabinet minister who helped negotiate peace, and murdered journalist Lyra McKee who was shot by dissident republicans in Derry.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will also be speaking at the conference later in the week.
