A total of two XL Bully dogs have been surrendered to local authorities in the Northern Sound region.
A ban on the breeds was introduced in Ireland in February of this year, making it illegal to own, import, breed, sell, or rehome them. A certificate of exemption was available to current owners of the dogs prior to the ban, allowing them to continue owning them. More than a thousand certificates of exemption have been issued so far to the owners of XL Bully dogs.
In advance of the ban, two XL Bullies were surrendered to Cavan County Council up to the end of March.
None were surrendered in Monaghan
