The Transport Minister says Cavan and Monaghan will get "priority" for roads funding.

Eamon Ryan says the lack of public transport in the Northern Sound region means an increase in funding for roads is needed.

Responding to local TD Niamh Smyth he said an improvement in roads could mean an increase in bus services and better transport links.

There are regular calls for more investment in the road network in Cavan and Monaghan, due to the lack of public transport options and the number of HGVs travelling from local businesses.

Cavan and Monaghan received a combined €29.6 million for local and regional roads earlier this year.
