Stephen Silver, of Aughavard, Foxford, Co Mayo, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Detective Garda Colm Horkan, but denies murdering the 49-year-old.

A leading criminal barrister says the sentences given to the three men who attacked Kevin Lunney are at 'the top of the scale'.

In his victim impact statement, Kevin Lunney said he didn’t know why the three men did what they did.

The footage, counsel said, was the fruit of specific lines of inquiry arising from findings in the investigation.

The admissibility of the footage is being challenged by the barristers of the accused.

The trial was to begin yesterday.
