Two Co Cavan schools playing key role in redeveloped primary education curriculum

Teachers, parents, and school leaders are invited to engage with the consultation process.

Two Co Cavan schools are playing a role in shaping the redeveloped primary education curriculum.

The consultation on the Draft Primary Curriculum Framework will run until the end of February, 2022.

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment says it's keen to engage with teachers, school leaders, children, and parents as part of the consultation.

Dereck Grant is the Director of the NCCA and the former Principal of Kilmore Central National School in Ballinagh.

While Derek Grant says the primary curriculum was "cutting edge" at the time, it's now over 20 years old and needs updated, with an emphasis on well-being, modern foreign languages, and technology.

One of the main features of the new curriculum will include supporting transitions between primary and post-primary education.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Derek explained how the Holy Family School in Cootehill and St Bricin's College, Belturbet, will help in this transition:
