Presidential candidate Catherine Connolly says no rules were broken when she brought a convicted criminal into Leinster House as a staff member.
In the latest debate between Ms. Connolly and Heather Humphreys, the independent candidate insisted she believes in rehabilitation.
Ms Connolly hired a woman convicted by the Special Criminal Court for firearms offences, to work in her Dáil staff.
One of the standout lines from today's debate came during a lengthy discussion on Connolly’s decision to hire the woman convicted of a gun crime.
A significant proportion of the debate was dedicated to this issue, with Humphreys strongly challenging Connolly on the matter. Humphreys repeatedly asked Connolly if she had ever asked the woman what she was going to do with the guns.
Ms Humphreys said you wouldn’t invite a bank robber in to run a bank. The Galway TD says the woman had been released from prison early, and she doesn't agree with the existence of the Special Criminal Court.
