Lissette Carcamo from Chile talked about her country being known for football, wine, empanadas (savoury pastries), warm food and eating raw chillies. She said Chileans are known to be short with tan skin, and a Chilean home will have pots and pans stored in the oven. She described the extreme Chilean weather - from the very warm Atacama desert in the north to the freezing cold in Patagonia in the south. She studied Engineering and Logistics for three years then moved to Ireland with her Croatian husband who was offered a job in Granard. She feared how tiny Ireland was and how it might be easily get damaged by earthquakes which they often had back home. She felt cold when she arrived in August 2018 and had no word of English, but managed to cope with the weather and learn the language herself. She now works in a mobile company, teaches English to primary students, and is popularly recognised locally for her talent in photography. She is busy taking part in local events and advices migrants to be like her in order to survive - learn the language and be involved with the community.
