Uche Chiemeka moved to Longford in 2004 with her husband and children for a better life. Back in Nigeria she was from the Igbo tribe, spoke the Igbo language but learned to speak English as soon as they started school. As the eldest girl, she was obliged to learn how cook and do household chores early and be a role model. Education and Christianity played a major role in their family. She and her family are now more Irish in their ways but will never forget their Nigerian roots. With an interest in starting her own business from a young age, Uche is now doing production and marketing of different types of Nuts, (UC nuts) that are now in Supervalu Longford shelves. She got her own business up and running with the help and support of Local Enterprise Office, Longford and Food Academy Ireland that gives young local producers like her a chance. Uche encourages migrants to know what they want and go for it.
