LISTEN NOW: Music and entertainment workers encouraged to apply for Business Assistance Scheme

Workers in the music and entertainment sector - who have been without work for nearly 500 days - are being encouraged to apply for the Music & Entertainment Business Assistance Scheme.

However, the deadline for MEBAS is Wednesday, 21st July.

The original deadline was the 7th of July, but this date was pushed back.

A fund of €14m is available for performers and workers in the live entertainment sector, including musicians and singers, sound and lighting engineers and suppliers, and stage manager and technicians.

Supports of between €2,500 and €5,000 are available and Matt McGranaghan, the Spokesperson of the Music and Entertainment Association of Ireland, stressed that this is the only non-competitive sector specific support for the industry.

He spoke to our reporter, Diarmuid Pepper, about the grant and how people can apply, but he began by outlining just how difficult the pandemic has been for the sector:
