A quarter of a million euro has been pledged in the last 24 hours in an effort to provide treatment for a young Longford woman who's been told she has just weeks to live.

Laura Gilmore Andersen has been battling a rare form of cancer since her first diagnosis three years ago, but this week a scan revealed major spread of the disease and she's been told there's nothing else that doctors here can do.

A fund raising campaign had begun in recent weeks as Laura's condition worsened in an effort to allow her to travel to Mexico for treatment, but that situation has now changed with this week's scan results.

Laura posted a video online asking for helping in raising funds yesterday, and so far today a total of over €242,000 has been donated.

Speaking to Anne Norris on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, the 35 year old Longford native says she's been overwhelmed by the response, and hopes peoples generosity will give her more time.
