The Rose and The Thorn is a new feature on Shannonside Northern Sound where the 11-1 Show presenter, Paul Carrington, chats to people from the worlds of music and entertainment about their lives: the highs - those "Rose" moments, but also some of the challenges that they have faced - those "Thorn" occasions. The interviews are broadcast in full on Fridays at 8pm but edited teaser clips are also featured on the 11-1 Show on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In this programme, Paul chats to County Longford native Mick Flavin about his enduring popularity as one Ireland's favourite country music artists, his appearance at the Grand Old Oprey and also his battle with alcohol addiction. Paul also chats to rising country music star Ciarán Rosney about his career path to making country music and the challenges he and his family have faced this last 12 months and the drastic steps he had to take in order to support his family.
