Earlier this week Corraneary and Killeshandra Post Offices closed yesterday without any replacement, despite a high profile appeal run in Killeshandra. Nine branches in Cavan and Monaghan were ear-marked for closure, after a voluntary redundancy package struck between An Post and the Irish Post Masters Union.
Mountnugent was one of those, with An Post saying it was to close on January 31st 2019. However the Post Mistress in Mountnugent has decided to reverse her decision to retire and keep the Post Office open.
Annette Smith had initially accepted the retirement package offered by An Post but had hoped the branch would be offered to somebody else to run.
She spoke to Eddie Butler about her decision, and started by explaining why she initially accepted the deal.
