HEAR NOW: 'Anorexia was just something celebrities had'- 237 people needed inpatient treatment last year

94 per cent of the people hospitalised with anorexia last year were female.

237 people needed inpatient treatment due to the disorder, which has the highest death rate of all mental illnesses.

According to freedom of information figures, 222 were female and just 15 were male.

This also raises questions over why more men are not treated and if there is a stigma still present in relation to eating disorders in men.

In order to get an idea of what it is like to make that decision that inpatient treatment is needed Sheila Naughton has been speaking to advocate Clodagh McGrath about her experience with anorexia and treatment:
