How rife is the illegal sex industry in the local region?

An event has been taking place in Monaghan to discuss new laws regarding prostitution and the sex industry.

The event, which is aimed at front line staff and anyone involved in community work, hopes to raise awareness around the new legislation criminalising sex buyers in Ireland.

Ruth Breslin who’s the policy and Communications Manager at Ruhama attended the event in Monaghan and explained what role they play in trying to stamp out this illegal trade:

Fiona McCaffrey Jones is the Chair of Monaghan Women’s Network, she explained why they felt it was of vital importance to organise the event in the local region:

Siobhan McKenna is manager of domestic violence services for Cavan and Monaghan, she feels that local women need to hear the message that things are changing in Ireland:
