Listen Back: Redhills man gears up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. This week, a Co Cavan man will be taking on the challenge of climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro; in a bid to raise funds for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
Moreover, Patrick McMahon who is originally from Redhills has been living in Manchester for the past 18 years with his wife and two children will fly out to Tanzania today.
In relation to the challenge, the Redhills man said this is a cause close to his heart as it is in honour of his mother Bernie and to everyone affected by Azheimers.
Patrick's mother Bernie was a nurse for over 40 years and gave her life to looking after people.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimers seven years ago and now receives fulltime care at home.
Patrick says every penny raised through this challenge will go directly to The Alzheimer Society of Ireland to help support the vital work that that do.
Patrick's JustGiving page is still open for further donations.
Jodie Curran has been speaking in detail with the local man ahead of his journey:
