Listen Back: Scott medal awarded for saving colleagues life in Monaghan. Retired Garda Superintendent Joseph O’Sullivan awarded a Silver Scott Medal; the highest honour to bestow by An Garda Síochána.
Moreover, the presentation of the medal was in recognition of his exceptional bravery in saving a colleague’s life in Co Monaghan; over 50 years ago.
Furthermore, the Co Longford native joined An Garda Síochána in March of 1967. He served for many decades in the Cavan and Monaghan division.
The Scott Medal is the highest award bestowed by the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána. Indeed, the medal is awarded for the ‘most exceptional bravery and heroism involving the risk of life in the execution of duty’.
A special ceremony took place at the An Garda Síochána National Bureau Headquarters on Friday. Ronan Gargan spoke with Joseph; following the award ceremony.
