A significant milestone has been reached when it comes road safety and traffic management in the village of Emyvale.
The Part 8 planning report for the N2 Emyvale Road Improvement Works was approved at this week's sitting of Monaghan County Council after it was put forward by councillor Bronagh McAree and received unanimous support from all elected representatives.
According to the Sinn Fein representative, a number of fatalities and serious collisions have taken place around the Silver Hill corner.
For a long time residents of the village and motorists who use the road have been calling for upgrade works.
Cllr McAree highlighted that Emyvale sits on one of the busiest national routes in the country and this scheme is all about making the village safer for everyone.
Works under the road scheme will include: a new roundabout at the entrance to Silver Hill Garden Centre/Farm Shop, a new link road providing access to and from Silver Hill factory, a raised, controlled pedestrian crossing at the entrance to Main Street, new and improved footpaths to enhance pedestrian access.
Upgraded public lighting, new traffic islands and road signage and landscaping and associated road improvements.
Jodie Curran has been speaking with Cllr McAree said these works will improve road safety, reduce vehicle speeds entering the village, and make Emyvale safer and more accessible for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
