Listen Back: The history of Monaghan Co-op continues to be remembered. Joe Leonard from Smithboro launched his new book 'Heritage Destruction - The Death of a Co-op' in recent months.
Furthermore, the Co-op was a huge economic driver for the region since its foundation in 1901. This book also signifies the end of an era for so many people.
Joe himself worked in the co-op for 14 years, as did his father before him. Indeed, like so many others from the area that worked at the well known facility down through the years. The book summarises the history of the co-op and charts the story up until its closure, the highs and the lows.
In recent weeks Joe has created a Facebook page where people can share and see pictures and other items from the history of the local co op.
Ronan Gargan spoke in detail to Joe about his social media account and the history of Monaghan Co-op; that has been very popular since he started the page.
