Roads Policing Units in the Northern Sound region have detained several motorists for drug driving offenses in recent days, despite the current Level 5 Covid restrictions.

On Monday of this week, gardaí in the Belturbet area stopped a vehicle during an Operation Fanacht checkpoint - the driver was detained after testing positive for both cocaine and cannabis.

Cavan Roads Policing Unit also arrested an unaccompanied learner driver who tested positive for cannabis - the car was also detained.

Elsewhere, the Monaghan Roads Policing Unit arrested a drive in the Clones area who tested positive for cocaine and they have been charged for court.

Local gardaí have since re-iterated the importance of never driving while under the influence of drugs.
