Cavan Eagles basketball club has been confirmed as one of eight clubs In Basketball Ireland's newly-formed Men's National League Division Two for the 2026/27 season.
Indeed, this is the first time in the Virginia club's history that its senior men will compete at national level.
Basketball Ireland has expanded its National League structure for the coming campaign, introducing a brand-new eight-team Men's Division Two.
The Eagles will line up alongside Athlone BC, Ballina Braves, Dublin Raiders, Fr. Mathews, Ongar Chasers, Team Northwest and Trinity BC, with home fixtures to be played at the Virginia Show Centre.
"This is a huge step for the club and for these players” said Eagles head coach Ryan McCormick.
“To be part of the very first Men's Division Two is something we're all proud of. We know it will be a step up; there are good clubs in this league and plenty of long roads to travel".
However, "the lads have earned the right to test themselves at national level, and we can't wait to get started in October."
Indeed, the competition will be played as a straight league, with the club finishing top earning promotion to the Domino's Men's Division One.
Fixtures are expected to be released in mid-July, with the season tipping off across the weekend of 2–4 October.
