In 2019 Cavan faced Monaghan in the Quarter final of the Ulster championship on the back of a relegation from Division 1, while the Farney side had reached the All Ireland semi final the year before and retained their Division 1 status for a 6th consecutive year.

Kingspan Breffni was perhaps to be but a stepping stone for Malachy O' Rourke's side as they looked to make a path through the provincial championship.

Cavan had other thoughts as Michael Graham sprung an ambush and caused one of the upsets of the 2019 championship, that victory propelling them to an Ulster final where they eventually lost out to Donegal.

Roll forward 12 plus months and it is a similar setting, Cavan relegated, Monaghan remaining in Division 1. This time St Tiernachs Park Clones is the setting, it is a preliminary round at the end of October due to Covid 19.

Can history repeat itself ?
