Monaghan and Cavan renew their rivalry this Saturday in the Ulster championship with a preliminary round meeting in St Tiernachs Park Clones.

In the corresponding fixture at the quarter final stage last year, Cavan registered a victory in Kingspan Breffni, a result that current manager Seamus Mc Enaney described as an embarrassment to the county.

With this years championship reverting back to a knockout due to Covid 19, it really has a winner takes all feel to it.

The two teams are coming into the game in contrasting forms. Monaghan retained their Division 1 status for a 7th consecutive year with a draw against Meath last Sunday, while they suffered a defeat to Kerry on the return of the league.

For Cavan 2 defeats in as many weeks to Kildare and Roscommon has seen them suffer a relegation to Division 3.

Monaghan's main injury concerns surround Niall Kearns and Colin Walshe who have not featured for the county since the return of action.
