Monaghan 0-14 Kerry 0-17
Monaghan’s first game post lockdown ended in a 17 points to 14 defeat at the hands of Kerry at Iniskeen in Division one of the Allianz Football League.
Kerry laid the foundation for the victory in the first half leading by ten points to six at the interval.
Peter Keane’s men were three points clear at the first water break leading by five points to two as Andrew Woods and Dessie Ward were on target for the home side.
Kerry enjoyed a purple patch following the resumption and a point from Tony Brosnan opened up a five point gap in the 28th minute.
A minute later Kieran Hughes responded with one for Monaghan and a subsequent long-range free from Rory Beggan reduced the deficit to four points at the break.
The Kingdom began the second half impressively and a point from Sean O’Shea stretched the margin to six points at the second water break.
The Farney men could have conceded a goal only for a brilliant save by Rory Beggan before Kerry restored their six point cushion moments later when David Clifford slotted over a mark.
Kerry were six points clear in the second minute of injury time before the home side outscored their opponents by three points to no score thereafter.
The away team still had a hat-trick of points to spare at the final whistle.
Monaghan still remain in relegation trouble, however a victory for Galway today over Mayo would ease the majority of the fears ahead of a final round game against Meath next weekend
