Monaghan produced a huge second-half to book a place in the All-Ireland quarter-final.
Rory Beggan landed a 55 metre free, as a Michael McCarville two pointer gave Monaghan a three point lead after six minutes, 0-5 to 0-2.
Brandon Kelly and Matthew Whittaker kicked a point each as the farney's lead was reduced to one after 11 minutes.
Michael Bannigan and Tadhg Baker traded scores for either side. Indeed, Rory Beggan landed a trademark two-pointer after 20 minutes. The hosts reinstating their three point lead, 0-8 to 0-5. The opening goal of the game came when Matthew Whittaker found the back of the Monaghan net after 21 minutes.
The Monaghan response was a strong one! A Stephen O’Hanlon effort, an Andrew Woods two-pointer and a pair of Jack McCarron gave the hosts a four point lead after 29 minutes, 0-13 to 1-06.
Westmeath struck for their second goal of the contest on the half-hour mark, Brandon Kelly fired into an empty net with Rory Beggan caught wandering, drawing the side’s level.

At half-time the sides were tied level, Monaghan 0-15 to Westmeath’s 2-09.
Westmeath opened the scoring in the second-half. Robert Forde raising a white flag after 27 minutes.
The farney responded strongly with Dessie Ward kicking two points. Either side of a Jack McCarron point as Monaghan moved into a two point lead.
John Heslin and Robert Forde levelled proceedings with a point apiece for the visitors. However, again the hosts responded in a strong fashion.
Michael Bannigan, Jack McCarron, Stephen O’Hanlon and Stephen Mooney all chipping in with a point. Monaghan now led 0-22 to 2-13.
The big moment of the second-half came in the 55th minute. Jack McCarron expertly finished found the back of the Westmeath net.
Monaghan never looked back from the point with Stephen Mooney, David Garland and Conor McCarthy kicking Monaghan into a healthy eight point lead.
Ronan Wallace kicked a two-pointer for the visitors who were desperately seeking a way back into game after 59 minutes. Points from Stephen Mooney and Jack McCarron quenched any threat of a late Westmeath comeback.
Although Shane Corcoran landed two scores late on, raising both an orange and white flag. The result was never in doubt as Monaghan enter the draw for the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
