The Taoiseach has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to major cross border projects.

In a speech on the shared island strategy today, Micheál Martin said the A5 Monaghan to Derry road upgrade and the Ulster Canal project are priorities.

€500 million in funding over the next five years was included in last week’s budget for projects in Northern Ireland.

Work is ongoing on the planning of the next stage of the Ulster Canal project in Clones, where a new marina is to be built.

A greenway between Smithborough and Middletown in Armagh is also planned.

Speaking in Dublin Castle, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said there are a number of local projects the Government wants to see prioritised:
