A Monaghan man has written to the Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan to highlight the difficulties that have emerged with bus services at the local station.
Tommy McKearney says the service in Monaghan has become "unreliable" and, as a result, Bus Eireann is letting the people of the county down.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning Tommy told how he endeavoured to travel to Dublin on the 2nd of June last for a 7pm meeting.
When he arrived at Monaghan Bus Station he learned the 3:20 bus to Dublin was running 50 minutes late.
The outcome of that, he added, was - the service was so "unreliable" he wouldn't make his scheduled meeting in time.
"It's not reliable, and the main point about public transport is that it should be reliable; it should turn up and there should be seats available for passengers," continued Tommy.
"For a lot of passengers there is no alternative - there is no train service in Monaghan.
"For a lot of people, myself included - I'm a pensioner and I don't like driving to Dublin.
"And a lot of people using public transport don't have access to private transport."
